A reference desk for Idaho civics.
Gem State Civics is an independent civic-education resource. It explains how Idaho's state government and civic life actually work — the branches and offices, how parties and platforms function, how a bill becomes law, and how citizens take part. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by any political party, candidate, or campaign.
Editorial standards
Every explainer is written for general education and reviewed for balance. Where Idahoans disagree — public lands, water, growth, school funding — we set out what each side argues and what is actually at stake, without taking a side. We name institutions, not politicians; our photography contains no people.
What you will not find here
No candidates, no endorsements, no election coverage, and no advocacy. The primer is evergreen: it describes the standing machinery of government, not the news cycle.
Sources & corrections
The primer draws on public materials — the Idaho Constitution, statute, legislative rules, and agency documents. If you spot an error, write to the desk; corrections are made in place.
General civic education — not legal advice.
